No, Joe...

Not only is G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra a deceiving depiction of the characters we -all?- knew, but its plot reminds me of that of the first X-Men film: the historical prologue, the attacked convoy, the Deus ex machina intervention of the good guys in the nick of time, two new reclutes introduced to a supergroup so secret it's actually non-existent and a madman's malevolus scheme to shape the face of the entire planet to its will; perhaps if I hadn't been reading SuperheroHype.com I'd have got some extra surprise from the unveiling of Cobra Commander but, then again, what's the point of having him or Destro start wearing a mask at the end of the movie, when everyone already knows who they really are? The leit motiv in the original series was that their true identities never were revealed... nor did they matter, for that fact. Plus, the shift in powers may be even more ridiculous than that of Revenge of the Sith...

Funny enough, this hereby homaging parody of G.I. Joe antics is much more accurate, funny and better played than Sommers' film, of which the highlight is a certain cameo by someone clad in uniform... and I ain' t talkin' 'bout Brendan Fraser! Heck, this video even has a real readheaded Scarlett, a decent -as in closely portrayed- Cobra Commander, a tougher Duke, a MILFy Baroness and even a final tingling:
